Thanks for replying - i appreciate it :).

So KStatusBar sits on (inherits) QSatusBar but has the concept of id's
which do not appear in QStatusBar.

So me using the KStatusBar::insertItem() which describes itself as
"Inserts a temporary text label into the status bar." is not directly
related to Temporary, Normal, Permanent status indicators of
QStatusBar ?

mmmm ... are there any KDE4 libs / QT4 books that you know of ?:)
