Yes, I thought of stuff like that. But the intention was (the impossible 
thing) to "translate" a presentation from windows 2k to KDE. Most 
things can be done the same way using kcontrol instead of system 
control. Even MAC addresses are displayed in KInfocenter nowadays. Just 
the easiest thing, hostname, has to be queried "barefootly".
