I haven't seen an RFC for the 'basic desktop', yet (please read the sarcasm there), so I don't think anyone is truly qualified to determine what that desktop consists of. Everyone has their opinion of what should be included, and there's bound to be disagreement. It looks like Jaison is trying to drive the ultimate user experience, where a majority of options are available to the user, where Aaron is trying to drive the slimmer, install as you go approach, correct? I'd say, as long as it's just as easy to find / install other apps as including them in the actual release, it shouldn't really matter...
