Summing up the kutils/KEdit thread on kde-core-devel it seems like there is \
a desire to keep kedit around for the users that don't want to use kwrite, \
but it should be moved into extragear. KWrite can do bidi now so the \
main reason for KEdit is for the old users who used it. This sounds like \
a good idea as long as there is someone to take care of it. So I am \
putting out a request for a maintainer.

KEdit is a fairly small application, but it needs some attention. It
currently has 22 bugs opened against it.

http://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?product=kedit&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED

It will also be the only application that will still use the KEdit class
(KNode and KMail are moving away from it) so that might also want to be \
done. There are no doubt other KDE4 porting and testing efforts that will \
need to be done. You don't have to introduce dramatic new features, but \
just keep it working and bug free.

So if you are interested please reply back. If there is no real interest \
it will be removed (it is still in the svn!) until such time as a \
maintainer is found. (in other words if there really is a desire it will \
be kept)
