For the interactive part.. I think it practise it would be okay. Maybe
you could get it to be in parallel and see if there is a problem.
Maybe queue the dialogs in some way.

I think we have functions to do this already.  You just watch a
folder.  Doesn't that 'just work'?

Well I need the cropping to be a bit advanced - a formula based on
which image it is, so perhaps too advanced for this. But I could do it
in a custom command if you have that, which tells me the filename.
