It is very much worth the time. There will be at least two more KDE 3.5.x 
releases, .3 scheduled this month and .4 in July. Have a look on this page 
and you will understand how much work is done for KDE 3.5.x

Always keep in mind that KDE 4 is more than half a year in the future!
