and fails on bigendian architectures (ppc, sparc), i.e. the outputis
1. miscolored
2. wronly alpha'd

the most efficient implementation would be to #ifdef WORDS_BIGENDIAN a reverse 
function (counting cols up instead of down) but it's easier to use i[col-3] 
for the alpha value and move the first col decrement (--col) behind the pixel 
computations
ask if you need more info or a patch

however i'm not sure if this is still important - there was sth. about new 
image effects from mosfet, right?
