I don't think it is (AFAIK only top-level windows can be transparent) but I 
could be wrong, and even if I'm right I'm sure there's a clever hack that can 
do what you want.  For example I remember seeing a Composite-enabled Konsole 
where the Konsole was transparent but the text wasn't, which looked very 
nice.
