I'm sure that everyone has heard about autopackage. If not go here:
http://www.autopackage.org
Autopackage has the potential to revolutionize software installation for
linux. It offers distro-neutral packages that can install on any linux
system. Depending on how autopackage is configured, users can install
software packages in their home directories without root password.

Here's the problem, since different distros use different versions of gcc,
some binaries (mainly kdelibs) are not compatible with other binaries
compiled with a different version of gcc. This is actually not a problem
with GNOME. However KDELIBS are a major issue. The founder and maintainer
of autopackage has come up with a solution, but he needs KDE devs to help
him. For all KDE devs that are interested you can start by going to
autopackage.org to learn more about the incredible packaging system. Then
browse the forums for any questions:
http://autopackage.org/forums/
If you would like to subscribe to the mailing list go here:
http://autopackage.org/community.html

If KDE devs do not help, KDE compatibility may be pushed back from the next
release of autopackage. Everyone here knows that we need a better solution
to software installation in KDE and autopackage offers it. Please help!
