Thats how >opensource works. Okay, let me refine this a little bit: Developpers are end users themselves of course, since developpers eat their own food, hopefully! End users are those who "do not know programming or contribute to KDE directly.. yet!" via code, translation, documentation, help, testing, etc. However, like I said earlier, developpers can always please end users, especially if it fix one of their own itches. I don't think that currently, KDE are scaring end users... or KDE wish to scare any end users. I personally think that KDE is one of the most friendly FOSS community and that it should remain as such, especially towards *newbies*. =) Especially, with projects like KDE University: http://www.fruitsalad.org/uofkde/ Still, it would be *REALLY NICE*, if developpers could please end users more than currently. I think everybody will agree with that. I don't think anyone wants to provide an unpleasant experience to end users on purpose or by mistake. I also think that projects like Usability and Accessibility are already a good step forward. The proposal to include a full-blown usability review inside the next "KDE release schedule" just before the "string freeze"... would be in my mind a Very Good Thing To Do ! Of course, I agree with you that any developpers unless appealed by KDE libs code quality or challenge, where end users themselves first before being developpers? Shall we make a www.kde-apps.org survey on this? =) - I'm just a KDE user - I'm not currently a KDE user. - I was a KDE user before being a KDE developper - I was a KDE developper before being a KDE user - I'm a KDE developper that do not use KDE. - What the heck is KDE? Finally, the KDE bounties page was renamed to follow the Wiki standard so it's for now on located here: http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=KDE+Bounties So, for all those that wish to introduce this bounties thingy, please populate that wiki webpage.
