This may be a stupid idea, but if you want a special feature to be 
implemented, can't do it yourself but are willing to pay money for it - found 
a company, hire some able coders, fork the application (that's a great thing 
about the GPL) and order your coders to code your feature.
if the maintainer things your request is a necessary and implementable feature 
and he (or some team member) can do and has the time, he will write it. if 
not, i don't see why he ever should.
afaik KDE is not a "build to costumer" project - as we're not trying to make 
money by selling it.
