Hello,

Trolltech announced[1] today that starting with QT 4.0 the Windows version of
the popular toolkit will be available under the GPL - just like the Un*x and
OS X versions have been before.

Looking at projects bringing QT-Free[2] or even KDE[3] to Windows this seems
to be really big news even in the KDE community.

Personally I think providing most of the beloved OSS applications on Windows
is a dual edged sword - there have been discussions on this before and KDE
core developers like Aaron Seigo pointed out the risks KDE/Win32 brings with
it.

Will the GPL version of QT for Windows make KDE/Win32 more likely - and will
it do more harm than good?

Looking at the recent LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards[4]
multi-platform applications like Firefox and Thunderbird did extremely well.
Someone even asked how many of the voters actually run these programs under
Linux - this in mind, would it hurt to have KDE applications for Windows as
well?

What do you think? Will this change anything at all?
