I believe this is one of the things libtool is supposed to handle.  e.g. 
linking to the version of libkexif in the build directory during the build, 
but re-linking against the installed version of libkexif during installation 
of the rest of the module.

The Makefile.am seems to correctly use LIBADD, so I'm confused as well as to 
why it doesn't work.
