just for the record, "logging in as root via KDM" != "starting KDE as 
root". Press Alt-T and use a different session type.

Feature Idea for KDM: a list of session types that root is not allowed 
to use [optional]. Or a field in the sessions .desktop files: 
notforroot = {true|false}
It would even be possible to modify the selection list for sessions 
based on this field if a username has already been entered in kdm...


extending this idea further: modify the list you get with alt-t based 
on the entered username's group affiliations and the rights of 
the .desktop files.
then you could make a setup where your session type is based on your 
group affiliations site-wide (think NIS).

like, there's a session type on suse systems called 'admin' which 
starts yast2 in fullscreen mode without any WM, which of course 
should not available for users without root permissions.
