On the left in the top half, you have mounted volumes (hard disks, CD's, USB Keys, Network Shares, etc), and in the bottom half, you have all your favourite directories (and you can drag more there for customization). I mean yeah, with the current sidebar you can add buttons that take you to specific directories, but it's not as nice, IMO. My SO always has trouble finding the floppy drive or USB drive or whatever.
