At least Konqueror, Kate and Kile do that. Take a look at 
http://webcvs.kde.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/kdeextragear-2/kile/kile/kilekonsolewidget.cpp?rev=1.4 
to see how Kile achieves that.
