I had problems with artsd and my sound card in the early 2.6.x kernels. It=
=20
was a bug in the Local APIC handler. I solved the problem all the time by=20
switching to a terminal, 'killall -9 artsd' and let KDE finish loading.=20
Then I'd remove the sound card module, load it again, then allow artsd to=20
start.

The bug has since been fixed. And I'm using Linux 2.6.6.
