This minimum requirement should be listed in the requirements for KDE at
http://www.kde.org/info/requirements/3.3.php. Currently, the minimum is shown
as freetype2 >= 2.0.0.

The following message is output when executing ./configure on kdebase-3.3:

   KFontInstall control module got disabled from compilation
   because of missing FreeType 2.x libraries/headers.
   You can download the freetype library from http://www.freetype.org/.

This also should really state what the minimum acceptable version is. I do
have freetype2 installed on my system, so getting this message is a bit
misleading - it suggests that .;/configure simply hasn't been able to find it
rather than that the version is wrong.
