I don't remember a way to do with khelpcenter, but when I was working on the 
JuK docs, I used a trick with Konqueror to achieve the same effect.

If you run meinproc on your index.docbook file (using no command line 
options), it will generate HTML output in the current directory, and then you 
can run Konqueror on the index.html file to browse the documentation.

So if you're running Kate, you can open up the built-in Konsole, run meinproc 
on the index.docbook, and then run konqueror on the generated index.html, all 
from within kate!
