I am also using qt-copy from CVS HEAD, meaning we have close to
identical systems.

Since mine is working and yours isn't, check your X configurations:
keyboard layout and Compose map.

The files are (in my system):
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose
/etc/X11/xkb/symbols/pc/el

$ rpm -q xfree86-common
xfree86-common-4.4.0-54827cl

By the way, when you say it outputs ";a", do you mean "colon, a" or
"Greek question mark, alpha"?

Also, please configure your e-mail client to properly send the encoding
it's using. It reproduced the same sequence I had in my e-mail, but it
placed in the header:
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN;
  charset=X-UNKNOWN

That way we'll never see the Greek output.
