KListView::takeItem and KListView::insertItem are introduced after KDE 
3.2, so the case is clear:
you have include files from KDE HEAD in your system, but the libraries 
are from 3.2. Maybe you forgot
to install -devel packages (if you are lucky, these which will overwrite 
the manually installed headers
from HEAD).
Next time I suggest to install experimental stuff to alternative 
directories, e.g. /opt/kde3 or /home/steve/kde
with "./configure --prefix=/any_dir_you_want_but_not_usr"
