I think kde need a complete system configuration tool with one backend by distribution. But i don't think that this tool(like gnome one) should let user choose his distribution at startup. It is to kde distributors(mandrake, suse) to choose backend at compile time. For exemple: ./configure --with-distrib=debian With this, it will be totally transparent for user: user don't have to choose between many distributions. Kde need a complete tool : network,services(something more easy to use that the current kde tool:), Xwindow, partitions, ...
