Boy, that's a seriously conservative setup - I have this nasty suspicion
that the best advice I can offer is "update to something more recent".

I doubt anyone but you can still check that (barring a checkout of KDE
2.2.1 and rebuilding everything). However, you can possibly get your app
to allocate a private colormap (XAllocColormap() perhaps?) and use that.
This will cause weird color changes when changing focus from KDE to your
app, but should work. Alternatively, make sure that there is a flat
background, remove any effects from the panel, remove as many icons as
possible, in short, make KDE plainer.
