Do I understand you correctly that it is impossible to call KDEPrint
in a transparent way and have it save the content as PDF without the
user noticing that KDEPrint has been called?

If yes: might it be possible to make a compromise and find a way
to call KDEPrint in a way that the pre-selected "printer name"
is the PDF writer?
So the user would see what happens but would not have to fiddle
around and look for the PDF export option: all she would have to
do is press OK and get the PDF file created.
