It's annoying, and have been pretty long in KDE, AFAICT. there's nothing in the mimetype spec that prevents this sort of interface from being provided. it would just require a different view of the underlying data; instead of showing the mimetype->application relationships, one would load the database and group it by application and show it that way. this could even become a standard "Configure Mimetypes" bit of UI available to application developers that would show just one specific application. i don't think it would be appropriate for a top-level entry in the Settings menu (which is already crowded enough, and mimetype configuration isn't a common task), but perhaps as something that can be used in application configuration dialogs .... - -- Aaron J.
