Just bouncing this idea here.

This is a copy of Bug/Wishlist #71671

This is an under-utilized feature of Konqueror.

chm has taken off. Yes I do know about the chm slave and it is actually a
positive mark for me choosing KDE.

I am seeing books with subjects which are only relevant to *nix being supplied
as chm not pdf. chm is a Microsoft-only format. Tells you where the mindset
is.

Have you ever tried to create a chm file? It is the most convoluted process I
can think of. Yes get the expensive programs and it will make your life
easier. It is not even possible on *nix.

Now take the war archive idea and extend it with two extra files, toc.xml
(nothing more than a structured listing with relative links) and index.xml
(same thing but as an index). Support for those two files would have to be
included into KDE. That is, when an war archive is open it will look for
those files and displays toc information in a side panel? Otherwise KDE will
default to the index.html file like it does now. The infrastructure for this
already exists.

My suggestion to include the same fuctionality in Mozilla (larger audience)
was shot down.

The creation of a simple ebook would be nothing more than

1) include index.html
2) tar.gz the contents
3) rename to war

I do this already and have made numerous ebooks (web site images) viewable in
Konqueror.

At present there are different way of viewing documentation as "ebooks", most
notably devhelp books, which are nothing more than tar.gz with a special
index. Yes devhelp book can be viewed inside Konqueror.

Am I missing something?
