It allows you to quickly move down (or up) a page without having to hold down 
the mouse button. It should at least be made an optional feature. I've never 
used middle-click to search for a term. I think it would be much better in 
terms of usability just to highlight a word that needs to be searched and 
right-click, then click on 'Search <word>'. Middle-clicking to search is 
unobvious for new users and too confusing.
