Hi,

while preparing the new hex edit widget library/interfaces for the KDE 3.2
release I am trying to integrate future extension. Like more control of the
encodings used to display the actual bytes. This widget should display 8-bit
bytes, using a numerical encoding in the middle column and some character
encoding in the right.

Here I meet the following problems:

How are the correct terms for the types of encodings?
How should I call the middle and the right column?

Example,
using decimal coding(?) for the middle column, ASCII encoding for the right:

0000:0000 | 084 104 105 115 032 105 115 032 | This is
0000:0008 | 115 111 109 101 032 115 097 109 | some sam
0000:0010 | 112 108 101 032 116 101 120 116 | ple text
0000:0018 | 046 | .

(possibly the first publical use of the drag'n'drop feature for the middle
column :)

For now I use
middle column: KHexColumn
right column: KTextColumn
enum for encodings of the middle column: KCoding
enum for encodings of the right column: KEncoding

Anyone with more precise terms?

Friedrich
