On the other hand, referring to a file is getting much more difficult without 
a canonical path. 
That's why everybody is using the IETF email system, usually with 
abbrevations, and no one uses the X.500 stuff with its complete meta data 
(for instance my email address would look like "CN=Tim Jansen, O=tjansen, 
C=DE" in the simplest case). When the number of objects is getting large, 
using attributes for a distinguished name is getting quite complicated, 
especially if you can not browse while typing.
