well, no actually, it wasn't.. the exact error message was something like:

error: no matching function for call to `KMenuBar::
   insertItem(QString, KHelpMenu*&)'

sometimes error msgs span more than one line =)

try:

	top->menuBar()->insertItem( i18n("&Help"), help->menu());

KHeplMenu isn't a menu, it's a QObject, that has a menu as a member. you may 
also want to try using XMLUI as that'll get you (among other things) a help 
menu for free:
