There are things like unified  global key bindings for text fields, global key 
bindings etc. these make a big difference to usability. Other things such as 
network transparency can add a lot of new functionality to your app for 
little cost. In large part though, it depends on the nature of the app and 
its GUI if it is worth the effort.
