This doesn't seem to be a pressing issue does it.

I sent the demo patch to TrolTech and did receive a personal acknowledgment
in addition to the auto reply.

Lars doesn't seem to think that this it is possible to do this easily.
And, he is correct about part of it. But, if you can embed the font -- you
can get access to the font file -- you can also get the PostScript font
name correct even if you don't embed the font. I don't expect that this
will work on an old outdated system, but you can't expect KDE to run well
(or at all) on such a system can you?

At David Faure's suggestion, I cleaned this up a little -- I figured out a
little bit of how to write C++ code (the first patch was only C code) --
and the attached is good enough to consider a Beta patch with the WARNING
that it will probably only work if you have a very new version of XFree86,
FreeType2, Xft, & FontConfig, which I would hope is true of all serious KDE
types. It would be an Alpha patch on older systems.

I also found an additional bug -- it still lists the WRONG name as one of
the options. This is a bug, but it should call no harm since there is no
font for that wrong name. :-|
