unfortunately, it's very easy to get absurdly long window titles (i have a few 
of them here, and i'm not doing anything very special). even with a decently 
small font size and 1152 pixels in horizontal screen real estate, the menu 
takes up the WHOLE width of the screen with your patch.

on the other hand, limiting it to 25 characters (as it currently does in CVS) 
is also equally absurd, IMHO... i'm trying what it looks like up'd to 60 Ems, 
and without all the nasty separators in the menu =)
