Well, I just had the same problem on my Gentoo system.  It turned out that the 
problem was that my new QT compilation was compiled with different configure 
flags than the old one, and so it wouldn't load the new library, just the old 
one, or something like that.

Recompiling and then making sure my environment was correct fixed my problem.
