Ok, I figured out where it pulls the wrong path from. Its hard-coded into the 
dependency_libs variable in the .la files in $KDEDIR/libs. That's really 
annoying. Why doesn't it use /usr/lib/qt3 in there instead of the resolved 
symlink? I guess I have to recompile everything and use a fixed directory 
name.
