I then add the directory to KDEDIRS with "export KDEDIRS=$KDEDIRS:$HOME/tmp/foo" and run the app with "$HOME/tmp/foo/bin/foo". KDE looks for the ui file in all the directories in KDEDIRS as well as KDEDIR.
