What is the name of your application? If it's called kxx, the translation
file should be <KDE3_DIRECTORY>/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/kxx.mo

Also, you can try "strace kxx 2>&1 | grep locale" to see, where the app
tries to load your translation file.
