Subject:    Dual monitor setup

I'm running KDE 3.1, with a dual monitor setup, without Xinerama. Ages ago 
while running KDE 3.0 suddenly something died, and Kde would startup with an 
error saying "Could not start kdeinit: please check you configuration" when 
the splash screen came up. Secondly the second monitor just kept the X hash 
pattern. Enlightenment uses both monitors perfectly. I've upgraded to kde 
3.1, but the problem remains. Anyone got any idea what could cause this and 
how I can fix it? Thanks,
