I did telinit 3 as root and got back out to a console. I do not have a
~/.Xclients-default file however. As per Pat's suggestion, I put `exec
startkde' in my .xinitrc and that did not work.

From the console, I typed startkde and here are the results:

xsetroot: unable to open display ''
xset: unable to open display ""
startkde: Starting up...
startkde: Running kpersonalizer
DCOP: register 'anonymouse-2631' -> number of clients is now 1
DCOP: unregister 'anonymous-2631;
kwin: cannot connect to X server
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to X server

The last line repeats several times. Needless to say, I do not get KDE. It
seems to me that X itself has to be started first but I don't know what to
do.

Help?

Thanks again.

Andrew
