I was using fonts that came with Slackware 8.0, which are just the ones 
that came with XFree.  I don't remember which, sorry.  I just picked them 
out of the combo box in that page of KControl.

I doubt the fonts I was using were scalable.  So this replacement for the 
congiuration is completely dismissing bitmap fonts?  This is still a 
significant loss of compatibility, to ban fonts that worked before.
