Try to run kbuildsycoca (as root in a console, if possible without KDE 
running.)

Otherwise, try to find a kword.desktop file in .kde/share or its 
sub-directories. Delete/move that file.

Otherwise look in the archive ( http://list.kde.org ) under MimeType . Check 
the resent mail from David Faure  on the koffice mailing list with his debug 
scripts.
