Do you mean that the splash for 3.1RC2 won't be the default for the

Again, you miss the point, but I will look at the other splash screens 
first.

As I am sure you know, they can be adjusted for any shade (126 of them) 
between those in the: "splash-3.1" directory (which I did not change the 
tonal range of) and those in the: "splash-3.1-0" directory (now changed 
to splash-3.1-127).

I will post "63" if you find "127" too extreme.

I find the "Blue Crystal" icons to be too light.  If you check the 
histogram of them, you can see why.  Almost all of the values are 
between 128 and 255.
