i just tried this patch out.. i'm running XFree86 3.3 w/a Matrox G200 card, 
though, so this probably has some effect on my experiences.

while it did seem to make the window you were moving seem a bit more "fluid", 
the windows you moved it over seemed to paint less frequently, causing a 
greater feeling of jerkiness. it was quite apparent as i would move a 
konqueror window over a korgnizer window, or an aterm or konqueror.

again, i'm just one data point, and i'm running an older X server, so apply 
grains  of salt ;-)
