Ok. I think, I see the problem. Since the java console opens and you get an 
exception related to graphics. This was a bug which prevented applets from 
being displayed and was fixed after 3.0.0.
I f you want applets to work, you definitely have to switch to a KDE version 
>= 3.0.1. KDE 3.0.3 (stable) is comming soon and 3.1 beta ('unstable') also.
