AIUI IMAP was designed with disconnected use in mind. you can perform actions 
(copy/move/delete) on a local cache and then the client should update the 
server with those changes.

One point to note is that many imap servers keep folders in $HOME, so any 
cache will need to make sure it doesn't conflict with that.
