The address works, but Lukas is quite busy these days. I contacted him but we 
did not come to any solutions.

That is right, same with me, on two machines (both Mandrake 8.1 but slightly 
different setups).

Still no luck. Switching keyboards still does not work (note that it does not 
do nothing, it always switches to US keyboard!)

I have looked at xkbcomp but could not find what is wrong with it. My 
$HOME/.kde/tmp-$HOSTNAME/ dir is full of compiled files (*.xkm). There are 
like 20 of them... no idea why.
