2-4%?

Are you saying you typically restore between 25 and 50 applications?

Rather than starting everything at once (like we used to) we know start one
application at a time, whenever the previous application registered with the
session management server (with a maximum waiting time of 2000 msecs). In
most cases, this should be faster.

If we are using 100% CPU, the system works fine indeed. If we start all apps
at once, we probably use much less CPU, but the whole process takes much
longer due to increased disc I/O.

Are you sure the entire restoration process takes more time on your system
than it used to before?

If you want to play around with it, change the line

  restoreTimer.start( 2000, TRUE );

in kdebase/ksmserver/server.cpp to a much smaller value.
