Hi,

the smbro ioslave still has unicode problems. local8Bit() is used everywhere
to convert the received strings to unicode.
Anything else what has to be done ?

Attached is the mail from the user who has the problems.

Bye
Alex

Hi Alex,

Good to hear back from you. I am not a good c/c++ program, but I would
like to contribute some effort if possible.

At Linux side is much simple, the file name is basically a 8 bits ascii
string, but on Win2k server, the filename is stored in unicode which
allow you to key in all kind of different language. Correct me if I am
wrong.

Since, I am complete have no idea about smb file sharing protocol. Maybe
you can help me to anwser some question. First, when you receive the
file name index from smb server, are they in unicode format (UTF-8 /or
UTF-16) or in ASCII ? Or depends on the parameter ?

What I understand is that MS LAN tend to be backward compatible with
previous no unicode client, including MS-DOS. ****Therefore, I am
assuming that it is possible to retrive a simple 8 bits ASCII file index
string, this string will allow client to read and display language. This
will the the fastest way to fix some major issue****, but it doesn't
complete fix the problem since it completely depends on server side
locale to translate the unicode filename to 8 bits ASCII filename.

MS LAN client, like win2k or xp... Seems to be able to retrive unicode
filename through network without problem. Of course, both side need to
be able to read and store unicode filename. I am not sure if we can
store the unicode filename on the linux filesystem and be able to
display correctly on the screen.............

Thanks
Tony
