I've just built Ian's kgravity screen saver and it has the same problem as mine - it only works as a preview (in a window), not as a full-screen blanker. Apparently there are some deeper problems with KScreenSaver/QGLWidget. I notice that the savers in the xsavers directory don't use the libkscreensaver interface (kss_create/kss_setup) but rather startScreenSaver/stopScreenSaver/setupScreenSaver functions.
