That's what I did originally, but no widgets were showing up in the 
app window.

The "main app window" is the wee shell kapptemplate generated for me. 
I haven't messed with it, although I've played around with the part 
quite a bit. Thanks for the pointer to the tests dir. I'll look 
through there and see if I can find anything. I haven't tried 
embedded my part in Konqueror yet (although that's the end goal). 
I'll try it and see if it works any better.
